Whilst it may be common knowledge amongst those of us who live in the 'burgh, I still feel the need to have a right, good moan about the trams project.. and eat a bourbon cream whilst doing it.

At the slightest mention of trams way back before the council decided to go ahead and rip up the city, I was quick to bring out my soap-box and gesticulate (that's my big word of the night) about the evils of said trams. The counter argument I always got? "Edinburgh used to have trams"

Oh well then, let's bring them back! And whilst we're at it let's bring back gas-lit street lamps, horse-drawn carts and the bubonic plague. There was probably a good reason why we ditched trams although I'm not old enough to recall tales of childhood euphoria about running along-side trams with my orphan bunnet and my braces.

So our almighty council has went "bugger it, let's waste some more money and really annoy the locals" and started on operation journey-to-the-centre-of-the-earth. Before you can say "holy earthquake batman" they've ripped open a chunk of the city and s l o w l y started to do whatever tramy things they need to do.

I never liked driving through the city centre in the first place and nowadays I'd rather choose to watch Big Brother series 18 on tv than brave a trip in my car (and you have no idea how much I hate Big Brother). And it doesn't even matter if you take the bus because they're de-touring all over the bloody place so much so that the driver can be seen with a map and a compass.

Will we actually use these things when they're finished? Will it just be the tourists who pay the thruppence-a-bag to travel 5 mph across the city? Will I ever shut up?

Hah, i'm in agreement here, the fact that trams are slow, noisy and pretty useless seemed to make them even more popular as a choice for the council.

So now for this useless piece of public transport we will have to put up with months and years of delays and rerouted buses to put up with this. I think they acually enjoy annoying the people who have to live in edinburgh, just for the fact that a few tourists will think trams are 'quiant'.

BAH HUMBUG I SAY!

p.s - I think that watching big brother is like walking up to an insane asylum and watching the people thru the windows.

It's nice to know that I'm not the only person who wishes he could put on the batman outfit and throw a batterrang or five at the council Smile
