Loads of places to go all over the city centre - most people visiting go to the Grassmarket - it has the Irish pubs Finnegan's Wake, Three Sisters, Biddy Mulligan's, night clubs Base and Espionnage and if you're into alternative, heavy metal etc., then Opium's your place. There's also City Nightclub on Market St. Have a great holiday! Cheers,

Julie

Depends what you want from the weekend. Grassmarket is alright but can be a bit dingy. If you like the more pricey but classier places then George Street up the back of Princes Street is good. Personally Rose St or the Royal Mile usually hits the spot with me

For clubs I was in Sligo on Saturday night and it was a pretty good atmosphere. I think it doubles as a Burlesque bar.....awesome!

Not really my scene, but as I have some mates who do drink in more salubrious places, I've got a bit of a feel from nights out.

City Centre
The Cafe Royal nr the Station is in the Top 5 bars in UK (Independant) fantastic surroundings, a lusher (used for films/TV) - bar choice is not fanatastic though, it's good place to eat as well. And the Voodoo Rooms above it, is a good new venue with a comphrehensive bar, cocktails and lavish surroundings- live music in the ballroom is usually of quality with some edge.

George St is club/bars/cocktails where the credit crunch dies hard, although there are some pack em in Witherpoons style places in the mix (Standing Order).

The Opal Lounge - lives off Prince William's visits, dont think it been done up since. I've heard Lulu's is good though, many people end the night there on your style of night. There's also Tiger Lilly. All these bars are owned by the same guys.

99 Hanover Street (on the street of it's name) is a cool George St style bar, Cocktails and dj with live sax. As is the intimate Bramble round the corner on Queens street. Further down that road is the Jam House, - which I think Jools Holland owns, never been there.

Oloroso is a rooftop resturant and terrace bar, accesible by lift on, er Castle St. Great Views of course, if you have money, or wanna impress eat here, tis good. Cocktails are good check it out.

Rose Street is good for drinking in the afternoon, epecially if the suns out. Lots of pubs a nice shopping street. So-so at night.

There is an new-ish swish full on RnB club next to the Station nr the Ed Dungeon. Never been but is popular - could be a bit young though.

West End.
Has well heeled bars the Indigo Yard and the some others.

Southside/Grassmarket
Grassmarket, Firefly is the best bar by a mile. The Bee Hive is a nice pub. Weekend this area will be stagged up, though so I'd give it a miss. The Outsider is well heeled bar on George the IV Bridge.
Avoid Espionage & Subway- bingey places. Also anything on Lothian Road.

Southside, Decent trad pubs are all along the Royal Mile. Live trad folk music is at cosy Sandy Bells and the Herbrides, folk music and ruddy faced local colour is at the Royal Oak. Art and quirkiness is at the Bowery, German beer is at the Brass Monkey, and especially Black Bo's

Leith
Day/Evening check out the "Shore" if it's sunny; on the shore in Leith. 'Roseleaf' is just off the river and a good place. "Fishers" and "Skippers" are great fish resturants
