Yes , Whitby is a good place to find bits n pieces but don't go where the tourists go, very little left to find in the summer. Try just outside Whitby. Saltwick bay is not bad but Sandsend is good. Watch the high tide times though as you have to go some distance to the good fossil beds.

As a kid I used to find a few belemnites on the beach at Ingoldmells. Never found anything else though.

I thought I found a trilobite on a norfolk beach a few years back. However, it was within some flint and trilobites had become extinct before the existence of flint which blew my fins away somewhat. Perhaps it was chert and not flint. Whatever the fossil is, it certainly looks like a trilobite.

Other than that I've found small ammonites and some decent examples of coral in limestone in the lake district and pembrokeshire. Smile

Hmm fins??? Think I meant 'find'. Or perhaps it did blow my fins away

There is a national Geographic shop in notts. Down past ruddington way. Its the nat geo site and they have a rock and gems shop on site (i used to be security on the gatehouse) Can't actualy remember the exact address as i just knew to turn off at x road and second left at the post box lol. Google it, might be worth a look.
